MARY POPPINS AUDITIONS BEGIN THIS WEEK!

The Alamogordo Music Theatre is pleased to announce its upcoming auditions for their spring musical “Mary Poppins”!

Based on P.L. Travers’ beloved book series of the same name, Mary Poppins became an immediate hit when it premiered as a movie musical in 1964. Forty years later, Cameron Macintosh conceived of an enchanting stage musical that combines elements of Disney’s film with material inspired by Travers’ books.

In the musical, Bert, a jack-of-all-trades, invites us into the world of London, England in 1910 — and, specifically, into the dysfunctional home of the Banks family. Jane and Michael, the young Banks children, have sent yet another nanny packing, dismissing these children as hopelessly and irrevocably spoiled and misbehaved. With a father who works constantly and mother who is always distracted, Jane and Michael have suffered without strong care taking forces in their lives. Then the magical Mary Poppins flies in on the wind, bringing with her a combination of whimsy, magic, and disciplined common sense to the children’s lives. Together, they go on memorable and magical adventures — and also learn the importance of a tidy nursery and of taking the medicine they need (with a spoonful of sugar, of course.) Mary Poppins’ transformational influence does not stop with the children — eventually, she teaches the grown-ups, as well, to open up and realize that “anything can happen if you let it.”

Audition dates are Tuesday, January 8th & and Thursday January 10th. The auditions will start promptly at 6:30 PM at the Flickinger Center. To learn more about the audition process, please visit our audition page.

AUDITIONS ON OUR MINDS

Start your new year off right with an Audition Clinic with the Alamogordo Music Theatre!

AMT is putting together an Audition Clinic for all ages on January 5th at the Flickinger Center. The clinic starts at 1PM and is free to the public.

The clinic gives Alamogordo and area residents insight into how people are chosen for roles, what to expect on the day of auditions, and how to make the most of their 90 seconds on stage. AMT president Jeremy Patton encourages all actors, even those not auditioning for any current shows to take part in this clinic. “It’s a valuable learning opportunity for all!”

Hot on the heels of the audition clinic, we will be hosting the auditions for Mary Poppins, also at the Flickinger Center. Audition dates will be January 8th and 10th at 6:30 PM. For a list of roles and ranges for Mary Poppins, click here!

So much happening in 2019! Come be a part of it all!

ADDAMS FAMILY OPENS IN ONE WEEK!

The cast of “Addams Family” horses around at Rehearsal.

They’re creepy and they’re kooky, and they’re coming to Alamogordo!

“The Addams Family,” the musical, based on the classic gag cartoons by Charles Addams, opens Friday November 2nd at the Flickinger Center. Performances continue November 3, 9, 10 at 7PM and November 4 at 2 PM.

And you’re not going to want to stay in your seats as this ghoulish family gets in touch with its macabre side.

“You’re going to see The Addams Family in a whole new light and how they deal with the “normal” world”, show director Jeremy Patton said.

Patton said the musical tells the story of Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, all grown up.

“She has a shocking secret that only her father knows — she’s fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family,” he said. “And Gomez must do something he’s never done before and keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia.”

When Wednesday asks her family to act like a “normal” family, the Addams family must discover what is normal, the director said. The results are hilarious and wackiness ensues.

The entire cast has worked tremendously hard on the show. Featured in the production are Fabiani Duarte as Gomez, Hillary Marshall as Morticia, Kyra Zartner as Wednesday, Sid Johnson as Fester and Zack Miller as Wednesday’s Boyfriend, Lucas Beineke. Choreography is by Kehau-Lani Kaihewalu and costumes by Geavonna Bryant. You will see the talents of many more Alamogrdo, Holloman and Cloudcroft faces as well!

Tickets are available online at the Flickinger or in person at their box office. In addition, Tickets are available at Books Revisited in the White Sands Mall or at the door the night of the show.

Remember, One week until opening night! We will see you there! Snap, snap!

SET BUILDING… IT TAKES THE WHOLE VILLAGE!

“The Addams Family” members Chip Bryant and Brad Douglas engaging in set-work last Saturday morning

Individual commitment to a group effort – that is what makes a team work, a company work, a society work, a civilization work. – Vince Lombardi

The Alamogordo Music Theatre has been gearing up for it’s fall production of “The Addams Family”, a musical version of the beloved classic characters that Charles Addams gave life to decades ago. There are several things that go into a making an extraordinary production; such as singing, blocking and rehearsing. However, set design and the set work that follows is key to a successful production.

Since the set is generally the first element of a production that the audience sees, its job is to convey the information needed to launch the story. An effective scenic design (partnered with a great lighting design) helps the audience see and hear the play better by telling them where to look and whom to listen to. The means to a great set design should allow the audience’s focus to be the actor in space.

Being a non profit community theater, AMT relies mostly on its actors, crew and community members to assemble its sets. Every Saturday morning members of the show go out and build platforms, flats, windows and doorways to create the desired illusion for AMT’s performances. It’s a wonderful way to socialize and get to know your fellow cast and crew.  The tremendous benefit comes from the brilliant people from Alamogordo, Holloman AFB, Tularosa and Cloudcroft coming together and sharing knowledge and experiences. It is what has made Alamogordo Music Theatre a truly wonderful organization over the last 61 years.

If you would like to get involved in set or stage work with AMT, drop us a line here on our website!

“The Addams Family” will open on November 2nd at the Flickinger Center.

On Friday, August 3rd, the doors to the Flickinger Center will open for SHREK THE MUSICAL! Tickets for all seats are $12. Tickets may be purchased at the door or online at the Flickinger Center website. There are over 50 wonderfully talented people in the cast, orchestra and crew, all from the Alamogordo, Holloman, Cloudcroft and Tularosa communities.

SHREK THE MUSICAL is based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film that started it all. This live adaptation brings the hilarious story of everyone’s favorite ogre to the stage. In a faraway kingdom turned upside down, things get ugly when an ogre – not a handsome prince – shows up to rescue a feisty princess. Throw in a donkey that does not keep quiet, a villain with a short temper, a cookie with an attitude and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you’ve got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. Luckily, there’s one on hand and his name is Shrek.
