AVENUE Q opens tonight at the Flickinger Center

After several months of hard work, the cast of Avenue Q premieres tonight at the Flickinger Center for the performing arts. Many hours of rehearsal have been dedicated to learning music, staging and above all, puppetry!

The irreverent, R-rated musical tells the timeless story of a recent college grad named Princeton who moves into a shabby New York apartment all the way out on Avenue Q. He soon discovers that although the residents seem nice, it’s clear that this is not your ordinary neighborhood. Together, Princeton and his new-found friends struggle to find jobs, dates, and their ever-elusive purpose in life.

Filled with gut-busting humor and a delightfully catchy score, Avenue Q is a truly unique show that has quickly become a favorite for audiences everywhere. Although the show addresses humorous adult issues, it is similar to a beloved children’s show; a place where puppets are friends, Monsters are good and life lessons are learned.
The cast of Avenue Q is made up exclusively of members from the Alamogordo and surrounding community. Not only are their residents from Alamogordo, but from Tularosa and our Holloman Air Force Base community. The Alamogordo Music Theater has encouraged participation from all areas of the Tularosa basin for over the last 58 years of its existence.

Avenue Q is a new show for AMT.  It’s a bold new step for the organization, trying to introduce more modern shows to the Alamogordo community. In addition to bringing new productions to our area, we plan on bringing the more traditional 1776 to the stage this summer for our nations 240th birthday! Closing out our 2016 season will be another effort to try something new, we will be bringing the wacky Monty Python’s Spamalot to the Flickinger Center this fall.

Do not miss out on Avenue Q! Production dates are April 8, 9, 15, 16 at 7pm at the Flickinger  Center.  There will be a 2 PM matinee on April 10. All seats are $10. Tickets are available at Books Revisited in the Mall, the Flickinger Center and cast members from the show.
